Hogsmeade is one of the most popular places to go in the wizarding world, and it’s no surprise why. With its scenic location and variety of shops, there’s something for everyone. However, before you go, you should know a few things. Here are five things I wish I knew before going to Hogsmeade.
I Wish I Knew aBOUT oWL pOST iN Hogsmeade
So I never knew that this was an actual thing in Hogsmeade! You can mail out letters and packages from a shop called Owl Post. You can ship souvenirs you purchased in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter – they just can’t be food or broomsticks. Two tiers fluctuate the price. The basic tier is $20 and includes wrapping and colored twine for whichever house you’re in. The premier tier is $25 and provides wax paper wrapping and a wax seal. From my experience, I recommend upgrading to the premier tier – it’s more in line with Harry Potter aesthetics! You can find Owl Post across from Hogshead near Ollivanders Wand Shop.
Hogsmeade Secret Instagram Location
Yes, that’s right – a secret Instagram location that really no one knows about – including me the first time! If you go to Hogshead through the Three Broomsticks or the front doors, head through the double doors toward the back of Hogshead. You’ll see a corner where the stone wall meets through those doors. This is where many influencers go to shoot their photos because it’s well concealed, and you get an excellent angle of Hogwarts Castle with the trees. I wish I knew about this location because you can take fantastic Butterbeer shots and very aesthetic eerie photos in this location!
ButterBeer Fudge is actually a thing...
I knew about all the other forms of Butterbeer, including cold, frozen, hot, and of course, ice cream. I wish I knew there is also Butterbeer flavored fudge at Honeydukes in Hogsmeade. The combination of butterscotch and butter creates a golden base with a light vanilla layer on top to balance the richness of flavors. It is soft and moist and dissolves nicely on your tongue. Wizards sure know how to create magical desserts! You must experience the Butterbeer fudge for yourself – you won’t regret it.
The Flight Of The Hippogriff Really Isn't Worth...
Let me be real – if you’re going to wait 45 minutes or sometimes longer to ride the Flight of the Hippogriff, then please do me a favor and take that time and wait for Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure. I wish I knew this before going to Hogsmeade! We waited 45 minutes, and honestly, it’s not really worth a 15-minute wait – just take that time to wait for Hagrid’s because I guarantee you it’ll be worth your while.
Free Hogwarts Castle Tour
I said FREE Hogwarts Castle tour! I wish I knew this before I left Universal on my first vacation… during slower times in the day, ask one of the ride attendants for the free tour, and they’ll direct you from there. The tour consists of sets and rooms of the Forbidden Journey ride queue with items from the actual sets of the Harry Potter franchise. They will show you all the finer details you may have missed about the castle, along with a tour of the various themed rooms of the attraction – this is a must, and it’s free! Now you know!
