Cruise Over to Biketoberfest 2016 at World’s Famous Beach!

It is that time of the year again-the internationally aclaimed Biketoberfest at Daytona Beach Florida!

Volusia County’s population is now up more than 100,000, as visitors roar into town for the 23rd Annual Biketoberfest Celebration.

The motorcycle event creates big business in a slow time of year, and it’s not slowing down.

Main Street Daytona Beach may be the heart of the event, where it all began decades ago. The event has spread throughout the county and into neighboring counties. Everyone wants a piece of the action.

Local business is booming. Bikers and those who came to see them are expected to boost the local economy over the next few days.

“You’re looking at over $2,000, closer to $3,000 maybe per person,” said Mike Loffredo, who is visiting for Biketoberfest.

“There’s not a lot going on in October,” said Monica Harper, who manages a local restaurant.

“It’s really good for us. It’s good for Daytona, it’s good for business owners,” Harper said.

Law enforcement all but eliminated any motorcycle gang issues years ago. Officers said they mix in with the crowds to keep petty crime, including motorcycle thefts, at bay. The biggest trouble, they said, comes from bikers who over imbibe.

“We don’t want them leaving here in a body bag. We don’t want something happening to them. We don’t want them visiting our hospitals,” said Sheriff Ben Johnson with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

Friday was the first day of the event, which features food, live music, lots of people and great motorcycles.

“I moved down here for this 20 years ago, ” said local resident Kenny Wayman.

Biketoberfest runs through Sunday, Oct. 18.

Come and showcase your sweet set of wheels!
