New ‘Once Upon A Time’ Castle Projection Show at Disney World

Once Upon a Time,” like any good story, is loaded with characters. The new show centers around Mrs. Potts from “Beauty and the Beast” sharing bedtime stories with Chip, the teacup from the same film. The projection show will include scenes from “Cinderella with her prince and the Fairy Godmother, who sets off the initial sequence of special effects” “Peter Pan,” “Alice in Wonderland” and “The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.”

Once Upon a Time is a far more elaborate projection show than “Celebrate the Magic” its predecessor, including newly installed syncrolites on either side of the castle. and more than double the amount of pyrotechnics.

The show, which was inspired by one of a similar name at Tokyo Disneyland Park, uses projection mapping technology to cover every nook and cranny of Cinderella Castle in vibrant images that appear almost three-dimensional.

Show time is a moving target. In the next few weeks, it’s listed as early as 6:45 p.m. and as late as 10:45 p.m. — that would be after the “Wishes” fireworks. Plus, there are several nights when the park is closed for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party celebrations. It pays to double-check before heading out.
